Product Description All Windproof lighters are not created equal! Only Windmill lighters have earned the right to be called Stormproof. Windmill lighters use a platinum (white gold) catalyzer coil that provides continuous ignition of the gas vapors, even in 70-80mph winds, and are fully adjustable with an easy twist of the flame adjustment ring. Refillable with premium or triple-refined butane gas--the cleanest and hottest burning fuel available--Windmill lighters burn at nearly 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit, producing a clean, hot flame nearly invisible in daylight. The Piezo-electric ignition system means there are no flints to keep try or batteries to replace, and is good for over 30,000 ignitions. Easy to operate and easy to refill, Windmill lighters have saved lives--reliably igniting fires, even in harsh conditions and at temperatures as low as -40 degrees F. The Windmill Classic Series lighters are ergonomically small and compact and available in an array of colors, patterns, and finishes. The highly impact-resistant polycarbonate outer case has low thermal conductivity to keep the lighter comfortable to the touch in cold weather. Windmill lighters are so amazing, and so reliable, they carry a world-famous lifetime guarantee: if it should ever fail, simply return it to Essential Gear and it will be restored to first-class mechanical condition free of charge.

bill February 3, 2010 Both worked when rec'd, one lasted about 2 months (3 refills) then quit. The other lasted a bit longer, but not much. Latch, hinge & ignitor mechanism all too flimsy for daily use.
i came back to it February 1, 2010 I bought this to replace the other one I had and that lasted me for 6 years, untill it fell 15 feet to break on a concreat surface. They are tough and reliable but need to be refilled more often than most lighters, but that is a small price to pay if you ask me.
It's just ok April 4, 2009 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Thus far my Windmill Classic Stormproof Lighter has been decent, but not great. The construction feels pretty solid and it operates almost as expected. The flame adjustment was lackluster at best. It's maximum flame really seems subpar. Really seems like no one makes a really good ruggedized butane lighter.
Since I have only had the lighter for a day I can't comment on it's longer term reliability.

At first, I was pleased, and I had the impression I could weld with it if I had to! I use premium butane, and after a couple weeks it quit; I actually need to send it back still. DV
What a Windmill Stormproof Lighter! January 20, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This lighter is fantastic. I have used it for a few months now and am quite impressed. It works in all weather. It also provides a strong flame for rapidly igniting large numbers of candles on cakes. Very light and compact. Easy to use and refill. I recommend it strongly.
